Life in Hutong: Interview with Yizhen

Qu Yizhen is an artist who is deeply in love with Hutong life and living there happily and peacefully for 26 years. Mr. Qu is originally from the North-East of China, Shenyang. However, he was always dreaming about living in a big city to experience and meet new people. He left his hometown while he was studying English literature at university and moved to the capital of China Beijing. 

His life in the heart of the traditional old Beijing was even more exciting than he expected. His life was full of culture, exciting opportunities, and interesting people. He met many artists who changed his life. Ever since he started his exciting journey as an artist and started his project with his friends to hold various art exhibitions in Beijing.   

He was one of the first Wellcee’s users and his house was unlike anything we'd ever seen. Although, his traditional hutong house doesn’t have any exquisite furniture, nor modern or stylish decoration, but the house is located in the depths of the Hutong alley with the history of over 600 years and it emanates the most real Hutong lifestyle.
